Using Roman
It was dark days in Kristen's life when she, Vivian and Ivan were arrested for holding Marlena hostage. Little Elvis was turned over to Susan and John and Marlena got back together. Kristen was out in a few days on bail. Kristen crashed John's and Marlena's engagement party in the penthouse grill. After she heard John propose to Marlena, Kristen wanted to jump off the balcony. John could prevent that. By making such a scene, Kristen unknowingly disrupted Stefano's plans to kidnap Marlena. Stefano was furious with his daughter. But Kristen soon joined forces with her father again. Kristen stopped John's and Marlena's wedding by turning up with Marlena's ex-husband Roman, who was presumed dead. First John and Marlena didn't believe it was really Roman, but it turned out Kristen was telling the truth. Roman was dying of a virus and Kristen convinced him to live in the DiMera Mansion. Kristen planned to take advantage of Roman's situation to try to get John back. Kristen told Roman she and John were married. John and Marlena had no choice but to postpone the wedding and play the game along. Stefano allowed himself to be captured, but only because he knew where to find the cure to keep Roman alive. John, Lexie and Abe broke Stefano out of jail. John, Hope, Stefano and Kristen traveled to a jungle compound where Dr. Rolf was working on a cure for Roman. Dr. Rolfe finished the cure, but it was eventually lost. The only other way to save Roman was for someone to retrieve an orchid from the jungle and its natives. John found the orchid and put it in his backpack, but when he was knocked off a cliff everyone thought John was dead. Hope, Kristen and Stefano went looking for him and found his backpack. The orchid was nowhere to be seen. But Hope found the orchid's seeds and Dr. Rolf made another cure. Suddenly John showed up alive, but he was poisoned by a native's dart. When John was cured they all headed back to Salem. In Salem, Marlena agreed to marry Roman because it was his dying wish. But the others arrived just in time, only Stefano's cure wasn't working. Stefano expected this of course and said Roman could only be saved if he donated his blood. Marlena had to forgive him in exchange. Roman was cured and Stefano was a free man. John and Marlena were told that any stress could still cause Roman to collapse. John and Marlena had to keep up the charade.
The relationship between Kristen and her father got sour. That started when Kristen got into a fight with Celeste. Kristen was hiding a syringe that contained the cure for Jungle Madness. It was meant to cure Peter, once Stefano would find him. Kristen accidentily injected Celeste with it and now Celeste actually had the Jungle Madness Disease. Stefano was furious and told Kristen he would not let her raise little Elvis. It turned out Stefano was Elvis' biological father. But Susan, drugged by Kristen, signed papers that gave Kristen all the legal rights over Elvis. Susan almost killed herself, but John stopped her just in time. Susan turned to her brother Thomas for help, but Sister Mary Moira stopped Thomas before he could do anything bad. Stefano was furious again with Kristen and teamed up with John to get Elvis back. Kristen took Susan to court. While John delayed Kristen, Susan dressed up like Kristen and told the judge to withdraw the legal agreement. John and Marlena quickly arranged for Susan and Elvis to leave the country and both Kristen and Stefano were left behind empty handed. Kristen reacted by tricking Roman to go to the airport, knowing very well John and Marlena were there too. Roman overheard them talking on John's jet and found out the truth. Roman planned to confront them at a New Years Eve party, but passed out. Later, Roman did tell John and Marlena he knew. John and Marlena told Roman Kristen was an evil woman.
